How fun is this discovery basket?! Such a great exercise in critical thinking and problem solving, and super simple to set up. All you need is a laundry basket, some yarn, and a few favorite small toys!

Need a safe sensory material for a group of toddlers who still like to explore new things with their mouths? OATS are a great option! We have been enjoying scooping, dumping, pouring, piling, sprinkling, pinching, sifting, and measuring oats this morning!
We had a visit from a hummingbird today! We got to watch it zip around from flower to flower drinking nectar, we could hear the humming sound its wings made, and it even stopped to rest near us...what an exciting, spontaneous natural science lesson!
We had fun with some "shake painting" today! The kids added paint to their paper in a container, then added some marbles, beads, and golf balls, snapped on the lid and started shaking! We noticed the different sounds that different balls made, observed the balls mixing our colors into new colors, saw the tracks left behind, and had lots of fun making some beautiful art!
Stickers are a fantastic fine motor activity! Today we set up a "sticker wall" and the kids worked hard to peel the backing off of LOTS of stickers to fill it up.
We are having a blast with some more DIY toys today! We used wooden dowels, some fun yarn, and electrical tape to make ours. There are lots of variations that would work great too: sticks instead of dowels, ribbons or streamers instead of (or with) yarn. They are a fun way to get out and get moving! |
